Privacy Policy
FlockTrot — Effective date: September 9, 2026
FlockTrot ("FlockTrot," "we," "us," or "our") is a group trip-planning app for camping and outdoor trips. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the FlockTrot mobile app, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By using FlockTrot, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Information we collect
Account information
FlockTrot uses Google Sign-In to create your account. When you sign in, we receive and store:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your Google account profile photo (if available)
We do not receive or store your Google password. Authentication is handled by Google and our backend provider, Supabase.
Content you create in the app
To provide the app's features, we store the information you and your trip groups enter, including:
- Trips you create or join, and their dates and details
- Groups you create, join, or claim, and their members
- Itinerary events, meals, and schedules
- Supplies, gear list items, and packing status
- Campsite information, including any photos you upload of campsite maps (via your device's camera or photo library)
- Expenses, cost splits, and balances you log for a trip
- Invite links you generate and the email addresses you invite (if any)
- Messages you send in a trip's group chat, visible to other members of that trip
Location information
If you use a feature like the campsite map or the Itinerary map view, FlockTrot will ask your device's permission before using your location — for example, to show nearby campgrounds or to route your trip from where you currently are. You can decline this permission and still use the rest of the app; location-based features just won't be available.
Push notifications
If you enable push notifications, we store a device token (provided by Apple or Google) so we can deliver notifications about trip activity to your device. You can turn these off at any time in your device's notification settings.
Information we do not collect
FlockTrot does not use third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. We do not show ads, and we do not sell your data to advertisers.
Payment / trip usage information
We track the number of trips your account has created (to apply the free-trip allowance) but do not currently process any payments. If FlockTrot introduces paid features in the future, payment processing will be handled by Google Play Billing, and this policy will be updated before that happens.
2. How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account
- To let you and your trip groups plan, coordinate, and share trip information with each other
- To operate features like invites, shared groups, expense splitting, and campsite maps
- To maintain the security and reliability of the app
- To communicate with you about your account, if needed
3. How your information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. Information is shared only as follows:
- With your trip groups: Trip content (itineraries, supplies, expenses, campsite info) is visible to other members of the trips and groups you participate in — this is the core purpose of the app.
- With service providers: We use Supabase to host our database, authentication, and file storage, and Google to provide sign-in. These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy and security commitments.
- With Google Gemini, for AI features: If you use FlockTrot's AI trip-planning features (the "Build a Trip with AI" sheet, or "Ask AI" inside a trip's group chat), the text you type — and, depending on where you use it, a summary of that trip's existing dates/itinerary/supplies, or recent messages from that trip's group chat (which may include messages other trip members wrote) — is sent to Google's Gemini AI service to generate a response. We ask for your explicit permission the first time you use one of these features, separate from this policy, and you can decline and continue using FlockTrot without them. Google's own privacy policy governs how Gemini handles that request.
- For legal reasons: If required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of FlockTrot, our users, or others.
4. Data retention and deletion
We retain your account and trip data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at flocktrot@gmail.com, or by visiting our account deletion page. We will delete your personal data within a reasonable time, except where we are required to retain certain records by law.
5. Data security
We use industry-standard security practices, including database-level access controls (row-level security) that restrict who can read or modify trip data, to protect your information. No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children's privacy
FlockTrot is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. Your choices and rights
- You can review and edit your profile and group information within the app.
- You can leave a group or trip at any time.
- You can request a copy of, correction to, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us.
- You can revoke FlockTrot's access to your Google account at any time via your Google Account settings.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by other reasonable means. The "Effective date" above reflects the most recent revision.
